Coconut Palm: The Tree of Life | The Many Uses of Coconut

It was in 2008 when I first came across Coconut Cures: Preventing and Treating Common Health Problems with Coconut… During this period in life, my mother had been sending me various inspirational and motivational pieces to read. She’s always possessed a keen sense regarding the type of support I’ve needed throughout my years, regardless of our geographical distance, an amazing gift mothers possess!!With that said, much love to all the wonderful mothers out there :) It is to you whom we owe all the credit, for the kindhearted souls in this world.

Excuse that brief interlude… Back to where we left off… I was living in Miami attending Grad School studying for a Finance Masters while working my life away for a large commercial bank.  A steady diet of coffee and fast food powered me through those 20 hour days. Work from 8:30am-5:30pm, school from 6:30pm-9:30pm, studying from 10:30 ‘til whatever time I could keep my eyes open! 5 days a week! Do you think I had time to cook? Noooo…. Well at least at that point in time I didn't believe I did (let us all remember hindsight is 20/20 guys, and boy was I blind).

Soooo Yessss I admit it… I use to be a fast food junkie! It pains me to say this but yes, due to my lack of nutritional interest, I lived off these food-like products for many years. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner smh… Dunkin' Donuts, Mickey D’s, and Pizza Hut.

It was a vicious downward cycle to an array of chronic health issues that I could have never imagined. All of this didn't dawn on me until one evening I arrived home to a special package from my mother (to which my friends and I dubbed “the care package," a college student’s savior! In it came the usual goodies: Chocolate, toiletries, a card (hopefully with some cash ha), and a book. This book happened to have a coconut on it, and I thought “What does my mother, a women that has lived her entire life in the State of New York, know about Coconuts?” Hmmm…

I on the other hand lived in South Florida and we are surrounded by Coconut Palms. If anyone should be familiar with coconuts it should be me… How incredibly wrong I was! I had no idea... And she knew it all.

She knew about all the amazing health benefits that the American Food industry had been denying and hiding for years.  She knew about the medicinal uses that various cultures around the world had relied upon for thousands of years.

She cooked with Coconut Oil, applied it topically as a moisturizer for her skin and hair. I was in disbelief, I knew nothing about this amazing tree that contributes so much to the life we know today.

Did I mention that I had a coconut palm right outside my front door, sheeshhh, what else don't I know about mother nature? Needless to say, this book would end up changing my life for the better and I hope you get the opportunity to read it yourself!
